The Solution:

What constitutes a good synthesis?

  • High yield reactions and/or minimum number of steps
  • Commercially available reagents (inexpensive)
  • Selective transformations
  • Safer, environmental friendly reagents

SystematiChem™ is an approach designed to help do exactly that; to expedite the process of good organic synthesis planning, development, and retrosynthesis.

Computer-aided synthesis has become a desired tool for identifying chemical routes. As far back as the 1960’s there have been computer systems that attempted to find synthesis pathways automatically. But even today these systems have had very little success and are of limited practical use.

SystematiChem™ is a system that changes this. It contains an ever growing database containing tens of thousands of organic chemical reactions and hundreds of thousands of commercially available compounds.

Given a particular problem, SystematiChem™ is a software-based system that evaluates every database reaction against the target compound and possible precursors, without bias. The proposed solutions are then analyzed by our chemists. Proposed solutions start with commercially available starting materials and use proven reactions at each step.

SystematiChem™ is a system that does not use reaction theories or bond strategies in an attempt to break up the target compound. Neither does the system incorporate vague, general reactions and expect the user to determine the required conditions to have the reaction proceed as expected. All database reactions are directly considered for the compound without biasing towards any specific molecular theory. This greatly increases the opportunity for the system to discover truly novel and valuable solutions.

Every step in our proposed synthesis routes include at least one (and in almost all cases many more) specific set(s) of reagents and conditions having some precedent in chemical literature.

The SystematiChem™ system is really the ultimate "research assistant" by efficiently generating many possible solutions to the given problem. Within a relatively short amount of time this list of solutions can be reviewed, evaluated, and internally tested for proof of concept and feasibility.

Another important advantage of the SystematiChem™ system is the ability to reassess existing manufacturing processes to determine if a newer, more cost effective process is available.
